It won't be too long now and the temps will be alittle more comfortable. The cooler weather is what everyone wants. At least I think they do. This weekend we will have the last of the State Fair. We will also have Zestar. This apple is sweeter and crisper than a State Fair and this year, they are huge. Zestar usually grow alittle larger than the rest. Also, both varieties of Crab Apples will be available. Centennial and Chestnut Crab. Excellent for jelly and just plain eating. For those of you that did'nt get any honey last weekend, there is just a few jars left so if its fresh honey you want, then don't wait.

The first weekend is behind us and it just gets better. This weekend, august 27 and 28, we will have State Fair and they are delicious. They are at there prime right now. If you want a good apple for pies or applesauce, this is it. Its also a great apple for just plain eating. If you like to make jelly, the Centennial Crab Apples will also be ready this weekend. We will also have fresh apple cider this weekend. As a real treat, our bees were very generous this year and we will have a very limited amount of honey available . I dont think it will last too long, so if you want and appreciate the taste of fresh honey, then dont wait long.
With just a few days left, I thought I would give you a look at what some of the trees look like. This is a row of State Fair, which will be first on the list this year. This is a very good early season apple. It's great for pies, applesauce or just plain eating and this year, we were blessed with a great crop of them. After these, in a week or so, will be Zestar. Not quite as tart as State Fair, but alittle sweeter. Actually, I think all the apples we have are good, they all have there own flavor and thats what makes growing them fun. Alot of them are apples that you may have never heard of before, but they are all good. Be sure to come out and try your new favorite!
The time has come and the apples are almost ready. The orchard will be open for the season on Saturday August 20 at 10am. With all the storms we have had this summer, we still have a great crop. The early variety that we start with is the State Fair. Those trees are really loaded this year. Because of that, if you are one of those that really wants to pick your own, this year you can! We dont normally do that, but we are going to try it on a few of the earlier varieties and see how it goes. If you dont want to pick your own, no worries, we will still have pre-picked as well just like always. Spread the word and come out early. I'll have some fresh cider for you to try too.
